I “do” theatre because I can continually be creating something new. And when it comes down to it, it’s not about doing, but about creating. Working in theatre is also about the continuity—continually learning, continually growing, continually imagining—and putting those experiences, thoughts, ideas, and images on the stage. For me, any type of performance is valid, and any form of art. Creation is key. However, what specifically draws me to the career field of design and technical theatre is how I can help to tell a story and enhance the movement on stage.

Something that has come to interest me a great deal is movement, and how that movement can speak differently to different people. Movement as a language. Lighting design is an aid to seeing what the body is saying and can be made a part of that language. Whether through ballet, opera, musical numbers, or scene work, movement on stage can teach one to observe the artistic form of performance through keener eyes.

Dance is my favorite expression of art through performance and movement. I wish to make dance more accessible to audiences and everyday people, because this source of movement is rarely tapped into by those who only observe. Dance is for everyone because everyone can dance, and I will use my artistic skills to make dance seen in a new light.
